Tuckerman and Huntington Ravine currently have MODERATE avalanche danger. Natural avalanches are unlikely and human triggered avalanches are possible on steep open slopes and gullies. Use caution on steep terrain.The Lower Snowfields and the Little Headwall in Tuckerman both have Low avalanche danger. Avalanches are unlikey except in isolated pockets. Normal caution is advised.

After checking snow conditions yesterday we found the high winds had done a lot to stabilize the snowpack. The summit did receive an additional .7 inch (1.8 cm) of snow. Crown lines from avalanches that occurred Sunday evening are still visible in the center of the ravine. Northwest winds did bring a significant amount of snow into the right side of the ravine (the Lip, Sluice and Right Gully) so be particularly aware of this if you are in this area. Snow is in the forecast for today with 2 inches (5cm) possible. Winds are expected to be from the SW at 20-40 mph. These winds could continue to load lee areas. If you arrive in the ravine and cannot see the old fracture line on the center headwall that should be a good indication of the snow loading.

THE LION'S HEAD WINTER TRAIL IS NOW OPEN. Follow the orange Lion Head signs off of the Tuckerman Ravine trail about 1.75 miles up from Pinkham. This is a difficult steep route so crampons, ice axe, and mountaineering skills are essential.

Coverage on the John Sherburne ski trail is improving but expect some rocks, and waterbars just below the snow. The high winds did scour a couple sections pretty well, along with the rocks and waterbars, expect brush in these areas.
